Agriculture is a key component of the Peel Region Official Plan (ROP) Review. The Region of Peel must ensure consistency of ROP agriculture policies with the Provincial Policy Statement, Greenbelt Plan and Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, as well as the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Agricultural Plan.
The Peel ROP Review will examine Peel’s agricultural systems and policies within the broader GTA agricultural context, ensure the long-term protection of agricultural lands and resources, and increase the financial viability of the agricultural industry in Peel.
To encourage further discussion in regard to agriculture in Peel, the Region has released the Agriculture Discussion Paper (PDF 350KB, 35 pages) to build upon the input received at the public meeting held by Regional Council in February 2007 on the overall Official Plan review, and stakeholder consultations held since then.
Residents are invited to comment on these themes, or on any other agriculture challenges that Peel faces. Comments received will help guide the Region's Agriculture Planning staff as they review and consider updates to the agriculture focus area of the Peel Region Official Plan.
