Focus Areas: Agriculture
The Region of Peel recognizes and values the contribution of the agricultural sector to the economy and cultural heritage of the Region. The protection of the Region's agricultural resource areas and the viability of the sector, ensure local food production and a healthy rural economy.
The goals of reviewing agricultural policies through Peel 2041: Regional Official Plan Review are to:
- Ensure conformity with the direction provided for the protection of agricultural lands in the Provincial Policy Statement (PPS);
- Identify prime agricultural lands through a Land Evaluation and Area Review; and
- Identify if there are policy revisions needed to support new agriculture and agri-food opportunities in the Region.
Regional staff will work with the Peel's agricultural community, area municipalities, province, conservation authorities and other organizations on this review and update.
