Although ambient
air quality was considered to
be "Very Good" or "Good"
about 95% of the time between
1990 and 2000 in Peel, recent
research indicates that human
health may be affected by even
low concentrations of pollutants
present during these times.
-
"Moderate"
or "Poor" air quality
readings were recorded 5% of
the time in Peel.
-
Ground-level ozone
continues to be one of the most
prevalent causes of poor air quality
in Peel Region, responsible for
over 90% of "Moderate"
to "Poor" air quality.
Between 1987 and 2000, concentrations
of ground-level ozone increased
in Peel by about 25%.
-
Increasing ozone
concentrations in Peel are associated
with motor vehicle emissions,
the industrial and utility sectors,
and the long-range transportation
of pollutants from other areas,
in combination with warm summer
temperatures.
