Travel Demand Forecasting Model
Most transportation studies undertaken in the Region,
whether small or large, require forecasts of future trip
making. A travel demand forecasting model produces these
forecasts. Such a model allows the testing of numerous
transportation alternatives and provides decision-makers
with quantitative information about the consequences of
alternative decisions on the type, location and timing
of transportation improvements.
Regional Transportation Planning staff developed the
Region's Travel Demand Forecasting Model in 1978. Regional
staff continuously update and further develop the model
in order to meet constantly changing and increasingly
challenging needs of travel forecasting in the Region.
The regional travel forecasting model has served as
a major source of future travel forecasts for numerous
regional, area municipal and provincial studies, providing
a consistent forecasting approach and serving as a unique
future travel analysis tool.
