Regional Transportation Plan
Metrolinx (the Greater Toronto Transportation Authority) was created by the Government of Ontario with a mandate to improve the co-ordination and integration of all modes of transportation in the metropolitan region encompassing the City of Toronto, the four surrounding municipalities (Durham, Halton, Peel and York) and the City of Hamilton.
One of the primary objectives of Metrolinx is the creation of a Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). Whether you live or work in Peel Region, the RTP is of significance as it will support the development of a co-ordinated, seamless and sustainable transportation system that spans the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.
The RTP is currently being developed through a series of discussion papers (also known as Green Papers) and extensive consultation with the public, stakeholders and experts. After each Green Paper consultation period, comments will be consolidated and analyzed. The Metrolinx Advisory Committee will review the feedback and recommend directions for future consideration. These directions will take the form of White Papers, which will in turn be consolidated into a Draft Regional Transportation Plan to be released in June 2008. The Draft RTP will be finalized and released in the fall of 2008, following a stakeholder and public consultation and review period.
