As part of the Emergency Management & Civil Protection Act, all communities in Ontario must offer a public education program.
Public Education Programs must:
- Educate the public on emergency preparedness.
- Tell individuals what they should be doing to prepare themselves for emergency situations.
- Keep the public informed of how its local government is prepared to respond to emergencies or disasters.
By creating a culture of public safety, the Region of Peel is not only ensuring that everyone knows what to do in an emergency, but is also helping to build a disaster-resilient community.
The Emergency Co-ordinator is responsible for:
- Educating all levels of Regional employees on the Region’s Emergency Plan.
- Training Regional employees in their responsibilities under that plan.
The Emergency Co-ordinator is also responsible for educating the residents of Peel about:
- Emergency preparedness in general.
- What you can do to ensure your own safety.
- The specific hazards the Region faces and how you can protect yourself from them.
The Emergency Co-ordinator will also ensure that the public knows the status of the Region’s Emergency Management Program. |
