The Region of Peel will be working in your neighbourhood to repair the existing sanitary sewer using specialized equipment to perform the underground work.

This work is to protect the existing wastewater service. Wastewater comes from flushing toilets, having a shower or washing dishes. Sanitary sewer pipes take wastewater from homes or businesses to a treatment plant.

Schedule

As part of the restoration process, your sewer service will be out of service (plugged) at the start of the construction work for approximately six (6) hours. Rehabilitation works in your neighborhood are scheduled to commence in the coming weeks, starting mid-January 2016. The contractor, Capital Sewer Services Inc., will provide notices to the affected residents 48 hours prior to starting work. This temporary interruption to your sewer service allows the sewer to be repaired without digging up the street.

During the six hours you sewer service is not operational, please minimize your water use as follow:

  • Do not use showers, tubs, sinks, dishwashers, or your washing machine
  • Keep toilet flushing to a minimum

These actions will reduce the possibility of sewage backing up into basements or into plumbing. If you have a sump pump, please call the Contractor's onsite supervisor listed below

You may experience some associated odours as a result of the synthetic resin used to cure the sewer lining material. These odours are temporary and will dissipate in a short time.  You can prevent/minimize them from entering your property by ensuring that you have water in your plumbing P-traps and floor drains.

Traffic

The work will be phased to minimize disruption to traffic while maintaining a safe working environment. A minimum of one lane of traffic will be open in each direction during the construction.
