With spring finally upon us, now is a great time to turn your attention to your garden and add compost to your winter weary soil, lawn and flower beds.
Compost is a thick, crumbly substance made from decayed yard and kitchen waste and is a great natural fertilizer that boosts plant health and helps improve the overall condition of your garden. When you use compost, you are helping to reduce waste in our landfills and helping the environment at the same time. Less waste means smaller landfills and less landfill maintenance.
You can get compost in two ways:
- You can either make it yourself with a home composter, or
- You can buy it at one of your local Regional Community Recycling Centres
In support of International Composting Week, everyone is invited to Peel's Integrated Waste Management Facility for their Open House on Saturday, May 7. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is free for everyone.
While you are outside adding your new compost, why not consider turning your garden into a Fusion Landscape? Fusion Landscaping is new concept the Region is promoting that merges lush splendour of traditional gardens with modern, eco-friendly design. If you want to learn more about Fusion Landscaping you can sign up for one of the free landscape consultations being offered by the Region.
