Regional Roads

Adopt-a-Road

Regional Responsibilities

The Region will:

  • Have the final approval of the specific section of Regional Road right-of-way to be adopted or a part of the Regional Road right-of-way not to be included for safety reasons.
  • Provide safety vests, "road work" signs, garbage bags, safety training information, flags and traffic cones and any other materials considered appropriate.
  • Erect sign(s) with the individual's/group's name displayed at the beginning of each adopted section roadway right-of-way; unless, in the opinion of the Region, erecting the signs would jeopardize the program, be counter-productive to its purpose, create a hazard to the safety of the public, or be in conflict with government or Regional policies.
  • Remove litter from the adopted right-of-way section under unusual circumstance (i.e. remove large, heavy or hazardous items) that have been flagged.
  • Monitor to ensure the objectives of the program are being met.
  • Approve the name, titles or words placed on the ADOPT-A-ROAD signs.
  • Have the final approval for any other requirements considered appropriate.

Modification / Renewal / Termination of the Agreement or Program

The ADOPT-A-ROAD agreement or program may be modified in scope or altered in any manner at the discretion of the Region.

Participants will have the option of renewing their agreement, subject to the approval of the Region and continuation of the program. Updated participant information is required at the time of the renewal.

The Region may terminate the agreement and/or remove the ADOPT-A-ROAD signs bearing participant's name if it finds that: the individual/group is not meeting the terms and conditions of the agreement; one or more participants of a group is not acting in a responsible manner, the participants are acting contrary to the guidelines of the program; the adoption is proving to be counterproductive to the program's objective; undesirable effects such as increased litter, vandalism, or signs of theft are resulting from the adoption; or participants have engaged in irresponsible conduct at the adopted section.
