Environmental Assessment

Intersection improvements for Steeles Avenue with Finch Avenue and Highway 50

Steeles Avenue is currently a six-lane road west of Finch Avenue and four-lane road east of the Finch Avenue intersection. Highway 50 and Finch Avenue are both four-lane at the intersection with Steeles Avenue.

The Regional Municipality of Peel has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) to evaluate the current and future level of service for the intersections of Steeles Avenue with Finch Avenue and Highway 50. The Study will consider the following elements:

  • Operational and Service deficiencies
  • Intersection Geometrics
  • Intersection capacity

The Study will also review opportunities to facilitate public transit and pedestrian movements.

This study is being carried out in accordance with the requirements of a Schedule ‘B’ undertaking as outlined in the Municipal Engineers Association Municipal Class Environmental Assessment document (October 2000, as amended in 2007). The Class Environmental Assessment planning process includes public and review agency consultation, evaluation of alternatives, assessment of the effects of the proposed works and identification of measures to mitigate any adverse impacts.
