Bolton Truck Turn Restrictions

Background & New Truck Routes | The Signs |
Alternate Truck Route Maps | News Release | Contact

Background

The Region of Peel and the Town of Caledon examined the impact of truck traffic to the Bolton downtown core and concluded that turn prohibitions would enhance pedestrian safety and the sense of security in the confined downtown area.

The heavy truck turning restrictions now in place help to alleviate truck off-tracking and boulevard encroachment concerns due to the tight turning radius allowed within the core. Pedestrian comfort levels are increased and safety is improved through less vehicular weaving and increased sight lines.

New Truck Routes

Four new reversible truck routes have been established for Bolton.

The Signs

No Trucks on King Street

The Region installed four truck turn restriction signs on the signal mast arms to convey the by-law restricting left and right turns by heavy trucks. There is one sign per directional approach, directly adjacent to the traffic signal heads above the intersection of King Street at Queen Street.

Four large information type signs (4' x 8') were installed prior to the selected truck route for each direction. These signs provide advance notice to truck drivers, indicating to them that all turning movements are prohibited at the King Street at Queen Street intersection. No Turning SignThese signs are located:

  • west of Coleraine Drive (for eastbound traffic)
  • east of Albion-Vaughan Townline Road (for westbound traffic)
  • south of Mayfield Road (for northbound traffic)
  • north of King Street (for southbound traffic)Detour Info Signs

Eight route information signs -- two signs per approach prior to each truck route -- provide detailed information on which truck route to follow to arrive at a given destination. These signs are installed in close proximity to the four information signs located at Coleraine Drive, Albion-Vaughan Townline Road, Mayfield Road and King Street.

Several trail blazer signs guide trucks through the area based on their intended course. The signs will be laid out as follows:
