Anti-icing Procedures

Peel utilizes rock sodium chloride (road salt) and washed sand with the addition of pre-wetting technology for anti-icing objectives.

Peel is conducting research into the use of alternative anti-icing chemicals and is constantly evaluating initiatives to reduce the amount of salt needed to maintain a safe bare pavement policy.

Peel and the area municipalities are collaborating on road maintenance activities to provide efficient, effective use of services for the citizens of Peel and the traveling public.

Other Winter Roads Safety Processes

The Region of Peel asks farmers in Peel with properties next to Regional roads to allow the Region to utilize their corn crop as natural snow fences during the winter months in an effort to increase road safety.

Presently, the Region of Peel uses the services of World Weather Watch to access advanced information on weather monitoring, forecasting and warnings.
