Projects and Initiatives

Peel Organics Demonstration Project

Approximately 1,800 homes in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon participate in the Peel Organics Demonstration Project, which began the week of May 6, 2002.

The Organics Program will be available to all residential neighbourhoods in Spring 2007.

Organic Items We Accept

Place the following organic items in your green cart/container:

Kitchen Waste

All food waste including:

  • bones
  • bread
  • coffee grounds
  • dairy
  • eggs
  • filters
  • fruits
  • meat
  • pasta
  • sauces
  • tea bags
  • vegetables

Yard Waste

All yard waste including:

  • brush
  • grass clippings
  • leaves
  • plants
  • weeds

Please don’t add sod, soil or rocks

Other Acceptable Items:

  • microwave popcorn bags
  • dryer lint
  • hair
  • pet hair
  • soiled paper products including:
    • newsprint
    • paper towels
    • paper plates
    • napkins
    • tissues

Please don’t add animal waste, diapers or kitty litter

Only settled areas of Caledon receive organics collection. Please call Public Works at 905-791-9499 to confirm your participation.
