2012/2013 Waste Management Guide

Setting Out
Your Waste

  • Place your garbage and recyclable material (blue box, green bin and yard waste) at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day, but no earlier than 7 p.m. the night before
  • Place your recyclable material on one side of the driveway and garbage on the opposite side, where possible
  • Keep your waste separate from your neighbour’s
  • Before collection, remove any items used to keep container lids in place (e.g. bungee cords)
  • Place your waste as close to the road as possible without blocking the travelled portion of the road or sidewalk
  • Remove empty containers or waste not collected from the curb by 9 p.m. on your collection day
  • Minimum garbage bag size is 30 cm x 30 cm (12 in. x 12 in.)

Items to be collected MUST NOT be larger than indicated below:

60 cm (24 in.) wide by 95 cm (38 in.) tall
Garbage Bag
66 cm (26 in.) wide by 90 cm (36 in.) tall
Bundle of Wood
1.2 m (4 ft.) wide by 76 cm (30 in.) tall
Blue Box
57 cm (23 in.) wide by 43 cm (17 in.) deep by 40 cm (16 in.) tall
Yard Waste Bag
66 cm (26 in.) wide by 90 cm (36 in.) tall
Recycling Bag
76 cm (30 in.) wide by 90 cm (36 in.) tall

Items Not Collected at the Curb
  • construction/demolition and renovation material (e.g. large amounts of wood waste, decks, fencing, cupboards, cabinets, countertops, skids, flooring, tiles, shingles, drywall, concrete and bricks)
  • tires and automotive parts
  • landscaping building material (e.g. cut stone, shale, gravel, railroad ties, soil, sand and sod)
  • household hazardous waste (e.g. needles, paint and cleaners; see page 21)
  • select electronics (see page 14)

Note – Peel’s Community Recycling Centres offer disposal options for most of these items (see pages 20 to 25).
