not acceptable

Non-compostable plastics (e.g,. plastic grocery bags) are NOT acceptable for use in the Region of Peel’s Organics Recycling Program.

The following special purpose plastic liner bags are non-compostable and are NOT acceptable for organics collection in the Region of Peel:

  • GLAD Green Recycling Bags for Kitchen Organics
  • No-Name Quick-tie Bags for Compostables
  • Super-Sak Transparent Green Bags for Kitchen Organics
  • Quikkie Green Kitchen Recycling Bags
  • Bio-Solo Bags
  • Hero Clear Green Recycling Bags

Plastic bags claiming to be “degradable” or “oxo-degradable” are also NOT acceptable for organics collection in the Region of Peel. Degradable plastic shopping bags are produced by adding a chemical additive that initiates the degradation of the polyethylene into smaller, inert pieces. These pieces will not compost and will contribute to the contamination of the finished compost.

"Degradable" or "oxo-degradable" retail carry-out plastic bags and outer bags from some milk companies, such as the following, are NOT acceptable for organics collection in the Region of Peel:

  • Bulk Barn
  • Planet Organic
  • T&T Supermarket
  • Natrel Milk bags
  • Eico liner bags
