The Region of Peel strives to provide cost-effective, efficient and environmentally responsible waste management services to the more than 1 million residents in the Cities of Brampton and Mississauga and the Town of Caledon.
The Region directly provides waste collection and recycling services to more than 300,000 households and approximately 88,000 apartments, condominiums and town home complex units.
In addition, Peel operates a network of Community Recycling Centres offering residents and small businesses a convenient opportunity to drop off recyclable and non-recyclable materials, household hazardous waste and reusable goods. The recycling and disposal services offered at these facilities are designed to supplement weekly curbside and apartment collection programs.
Diverting Waste
The Region of Peel has set a goal of diverting 70 per cent of waste from disposal by 2016. This target is achievable, but requires that we embrace effective new methods to manage our waste. These are challenging times, demanding new solutions and increased efforts. The Region will continue to provide its residents with the programs, services, tools and encouragement to further reduce the waste we generate.
Thanks to the efforts of Peel's residents, we’re already diverting 50 per cent of Peel’s waste from disposal. We’re more than two-thirds of the way there. With continued resident support and participation, the Region will move closer towards its waste diversion target.
