Acceptable Garbage Bags, Containers and Bundled Wood
The Two Bag Standard Program requires that all waste receptacles and bundled wood meet the following specifications:
Plastic garbage bags should be
no larger than 66 cm (26 in.) in width and 90 cm (35 in.)
in length, capable of being closed or tied. They must be
strong enough to securely hold their contents.
Garbage cans or containers must
be rigid with removable lids and with handles that are attached
or moulded to the exterior of the container. The volume
must not exceed 125 L, the height should not be greater than
95 cm (38 in.) and the width should be no greater than 60 cm
(24 in).
Bundled wood should be 1.2 m
(4 ft.) or less in length and
76 cm (30 in.) or less in
width.
Individual bags, containers and bundled wood must not exceed 20 kg (44 lbs.)
A grocery/shopping bag will count as one bag towards the Two Bag Standard. The minimum size of bag permitted is 30 cm X 30 cm (12 in. X 12 in.)
How to Tag Your Bags and Containers
- Attach the tag to the neck of your garbage bag.
- Place the tag around the handle of your container.
Curbside Collection: Setting Out Your Waste
NOTE: The two bag standard does not apply to large appliances, bulky items, yard waste or blue box materials. For appliances, please call Public Works to arrange an appointment for pickup. There are no limits to the amount of recyclable material and yard waste that can be put out at the curb.
