Basement Flooding Remediation Program
Residents who reported flooding to the Region of Peel or City of Mississauga due to the August 4, 2009 rain storm, are now eligible to participate in a new program. This program aims to reduce the likelihood of future basement flooding.
Other homeowners may be added to a waiting list for a possible supplementary program.
The following activities are being offered as part of the Basement Flooding Remediation program:
- Household drainage surveys – to evaluate and recommend property improvements. The drainage survey will include a review of your home’s plumbing and lot drainage, as well as a closed circuit TV scan of the sewer pipes running from the home to the street and other underground sanitary plumbing. The results will be analyzed and written recommendations for improvements made to the homeowner.

To sign up for a household drainage survey, please call Program Manager Chris Smith, at 905-791-7800, ext. 2119.
- Check valve installations – to create a barrier for future sewer back ups. A check valve requires installation by a certified plumber using the valve that is approved by the Ontario Building Code (the Mainline fullport backwater valve). The cost for the installation will be shared between the homeowner and the Region of Peel (50/50) up to a total of $1250. The rebate will not be issued if your home’s downspout has not been disconnected from the sanitary sewer.
- Downspout disconnections – to properly redirect storm water. For those homes requiring disconnection of their downspout from the sanitary sewer system, up to 100 per cent of the cost will be covered.

Note: you must take part in the drainage survey before you can take advantage of the rebate for the check valve installation or the downspout disconnection.
