Sewer Emergencies - Who to Call

If you have a problem with the storm sewer in your neighbourhood, (pooling of water at the catch basin) call your local municipality.

  • City of Brampton at 311 or 905-874-2500
  • City of Mississauga at 311 or 905-615-3000
  • Town of Caledon at 905-584-2272, ext.4238

If you are having a problem with water in your basement call the Region of Peel at 905-791-7800.

24 hour sanitary sewer back up services

The Region of Peel offers emergency sanitary sewer blockage service to Peel households, 24 hours of day, seven days a week.

Most backups occur when the sewer pipe that runs from your home to the Region’s main sanitary sewer pipe is blocked with items such as roots or grease. A blockage in the sewer pipe may cause wastewater to back up into your basement from the floor drain.

If you have a sewer backup in your home, call the Region of Peel at 905-791-7800, ext. 4409. Residents in Caledon call 1-888-919-7800, free of charge.

A flat fee of $400 is charged during the week from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and $530 on weekends and after hours – plus GST is charged for all service calls where the problem area is located on private residential property.

To help reduce sanitary sewer blockages and prevent backups from occurring in your home, avoid using drains or toilets to dispose of grease, oils, diapers, rags or other material that can harden or settle within the sewer pipes.
