Recycle Right – Helpful Tips

main

Your commitment to recycling is making a big difference. Working together we’ve redirected 50% of waste from landfill. Let’s keep up the good work. You can help by avoiding this common recycling mistake.

Don’t put your recycling in plastic shopping bags.

It’s okay to keep things loose

It’s better to put recyclables loose in your recycling cart. Recyclable items don’t need to be bagged. If you live in an apartment or condo put recyclable items loose in your building's recycling bins.

Don’t put your recyclable items in plastic shopping bags. Plastic shopping bags are too small for our bag-breaker to rip open, and our waste-sorting machines move fast. They can’t catch each and every bag, so plastic shopping bags filled with recyclables go straight to landfill.

Find out how to sort common items

If you’re not sure how to properly dispose of a particular item, you can use the waste sorting tool. It has hundreds of items and instructions about what to do with each of them.
