How to help people who are in need this holiday season
The
holidays are a difficult time for many families. Often families receiving social
assistance or working for minimum wage struggle to pay rent and basic needs
leaving no money to buy gifts for their children. Last year 2,011 families received
help from the Region of Peel Human Services Holiday Gift Program, resulting
in gifts for 3,300 children.
One family wrote:
Thank you so much for all that you have done for us. You made our Christmas the best one we've ever had. You and your helpers were so generous and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Thanks for making a difference in our Community. Thanks "Santa"
The success of the Holiday Gift Program relies entirely on the generosity of organizations and individuals from our community. Gift cards are an ideal donation as they can be used to purchase appropriate clothing, toys or other items that may be needed. Gift cards also give parents the opportunity to experience the joy of shopping for their children's gifts.
