The Region operates three of Peel’s emergency shelters for singles and families, one in Brampton and two in Mississauga.
We also play an important role in supporting residents at the three shelters for Victims of Violence in Peel.
Caseworkers from Ontario Works in Peel Hostel Services visit each shelter, or interval/transition home, and work with residents by:
Completing financial assessments and applications with shelter residents
Working with counselling staff to develop an individual case plan for each resident
Assisting homeless residents in the Region of Peel to find and maintain housing
Providing referrals to community agencies
Providing assistance with drug and dental costs and for items such as last months rent, medical transportation and surgical supplies
In addition, trained early childhood educators from the Region's Children's Services Division offer programs for infants, toddlers and preschoolers from birth to six years, with a focus on supporting the developmental/emotional needs of young children living in shelters.
