Between 2009 and 2011 the Region of Peel implemented the first three-year plan of the integrated Human Services Department. The plan, which has been extended through 2014, sets out the priorities for the delivery of Human Services in Peel Region over three years and will guide and inform the development of annual operating plans for the department and work groups during this period. It will also inform an integrated service delivery for Human Services, featuring our point of entry and a new organizational structure. This accomplishment is the result of many months of consultation, dialogue, reflection, information gathering and information synthesis.
Human Services Department Mandate
Plan, manage and deliver quality, integrated human services and resources that invest in people to enable participation in the changing community and the economy.
Not only is it a “first” for the department, it is the first Region of Peel plan of its kind to be largely informed by its stakeholders: clients, employees and the many external organizations and agencies with whom the Region partners in its work. It is also among the first of its kinds to be developed by an Ontario municipality.
The decision to develop a Human Services Plan was the result of several factors including:
- Interest in having a high level strategic vision and direction for human services to support implementation of the Regional Strategic Plan.
- Providing a framework to support an integrated service delivery model that would simplify access to services for clients over the long term.
- Regional involvement in the Provincial-Municipal Fiscal and Service Delivery Review which has recommended that all municipalities develop human services plans.
