the magazine of the National
Quality Institute.
Certificate Received
TransHelp has received the first National Quality Institute
Progressive Excellence Program Certificate (NQI PEP). Dan Corbett,
President of the National Quality Institute, presented Region of Peel
officials and TransHelp's Manager, Norm McLeod, with a Progressive Excellence
Program Level Two Certificate at Regional Council on September 14, 2000.
"This Progressive Excellence Program Award accomplishment is an indicator
of the Region's approach to public accountability", said Corbett. "It
clearly demonstrates Peel's commitment to achieving organizational excellence
and continuously finding better ways to serve the citizens of Peel.
"TransHelp has demonstrated a clear commitment to improving the quality
of life for users of its transportation system," commended Corbett.
"TransHelp management and employees have shown the use of quality principles
to provide affordable and accessible service to citizens in the Region
of Peel."
"I am extremely proud of TransHelp management and employees," said
Paul Vezina, Commissioner of Social Services. "The are proven innovators
in customer service. Management introduced the use of taxis to supplement
its buses for enhancing service to its clients. TransHelp operates at
a lower cost than similar services across Ontario."
"The benefits we derive as an organization from our membership with
NQI are invaluable," said Roger Maloney, Chief Administrative Officer
of the Region of Peel. "Many of the private sector member companies
have maintained a strong foothold in their respective marketplaces because
of their continuous push to be one step ahead of the competition. We
can learn from these partners." "By promoting the recognition we receive
from NQI for groups such as TransHelp," continued Maloney, "we can reinforce
to Peel citizens our commitment to provident them with the most cost-effective
social services possible, as well as public works, public health, and
municipal planning." He added: "We are proud of our track record. Peel
and our area municipalities have a Triple-A-credit rating, which is
the highest rating achievable. This places the Region among an elite
number of municipal governments in Canada. We are debt-free with reserves
built to replace infrastructure. We are well positioned to handle future
growth, and that is what makes the Region of Peel an attractive place
to live and work.
The Region of Peel's TransHelp service is a specialized transit System
designed for residents who are physically unable to use conventional
transit systems.
