|||| TransHelp Driver Receives National Transportation Industry Award

On November 10th the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) bestowed its highest honour, The Employee Excellence Award, to TransHelp driver Jayne Munden for her heroic, lifesaving efforts. Last week, Regional Council added their congratulations by recognizing Ms. Munden among the delegations appearing at the December 9 th Council meeting.

In April, 2004, Jayne saved the life of one of her passengers who became seriously ill on his way to Credit Valley Hospital for dialysis. When the passenger began showing signs he was not well, Jayne re-routed her bus directly for hospital while receiving updates on the patient’s condition from another passenger, Willa. When the patient’s condition worsened, Jayne radioed dispatch to call for emergency medical help and pulled the bus to the side of the road.

“I knew I had to do something until the ambulance arrived, so I began CPR with Willa encouraging me from her seat,” Ms Munden said. In her 18 years as a driver, Jayne had never faced a life-threatening situation – although she had been trained for it.

“We are very proud of Jayne,” says Alfred Stockwell. “We train all of our drivers to deal with situations like this, but the courage and quick thinking Jayne displayed is not something that can be taught.”
