Peel residents will soon pay less for child care

Lower licensed child care fees for children under 6 years.

Recently, the governments of Canada and Ontario signed an Early Learning and Child Care agreement.

All licensed child care home and centre-based providers can choose whether or not to participate in the early learning and child care system.

If you have a child under 6 years in licensed child care, your fees may be 25% lower as of April 1. However, you will continue to pay the current full fees while your provider decides if they would like to participate in the early learning and child care system.

Your fees will drop by another 25% by January 1, 2023 and reach the Ontario government’s goal of an average of $10-a day in 2025.

We’re creating a process to make it easy for your child care provider to apply. We expect providers who decide to participate to be ready to give refunds this fall.

If your licensed child care provider decides to participate and is approved, they will let you know when you can receive your refund for fees you paid after April 1, 2022. If your provider decides not to participate, they must let you know.

If you have any questions about whether your child care provider plans to apply, you can talk to them.
