    Additional Information

This Accessibility Planning Program 2008 Service Strategy Business Plan (SSBP) document will serve as the Fifth Region of Peel Accessibility Plan as per the municipal requirements under the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 (ODA).  The ODA requires that each year Regional Council approve an Accessibility Plan and seek the advice of an AAC in doing so.

On September 18, 2003, Regional Council approved its first Accessibility Plan for the Region of Peel. On October 7, 2004, Regional Council approved the second Accessibility Plan developed using the Service Strategy Business Planning (SSBP) process used throughout the Region for its various programs and services. The third Accessibility Plan was approved on October 6, 2005,   and the fourth Accessibility Plan on October 26, 2006.

On June 13, 2005, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) was enacted. The AODA requires the development of accessibility standards with the goal of leading to an accessible Ontario in 20 years. However, the legal obligations under the ODAremain in force until the Act is repealed.
