Guide for public announcements

An announcement is intended for the purpose of sharing information about a community or staff event, activity or function and must be sponsored by a Member of Regional Council.

If a member of the public wishes an announcement to be made at a Regional Council meeting, the request and the details must be received in writing on the form provided by the Office of the Regional Clerk seven (7) days prior to the Council meeting.

The completed Announcement Form must include a Member of Council sponsorship.

Announcements are permitted only at Regional Council meetings and no motions or directions to staff will arise from announcements.

The member of the public making the announcement will be introduced by the sponsoring Member of Council at the Council meeting, and shall be limited to speaking not more than two minutes.

Announcements may only appear once on the same matter within a one-year period, unless a recommendation pertaining to the same matter is included on the agenda within the one-year period and only to provide additional or new information.

Important: By submitting an Announcement Form, the member of the public acknowledges that the announcement may become public as part of a Regional Council agenda.
