Peel Region Area Services

Chantel’s Place
This private, secure area provides a comfortable and supportive atmosphere for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence and provides one-on-one care by a specially trained nurse.

Peel Public Health

This phone number is a confidential free telephone service. Information is provided by Public Health Nurses who can answer your questions about sexual health issues, including HIV/AIDS.

Peel Public Health Healthy Sexuality Clinics

There are six Peel Public Health Healthy Sexuality Clinics in the Peel area. These clinics offer anonymous testing, pre and post-test counselling, and referral for individuals seeking HIV services. Public Health Nurses are also available to provide information, assist with partner notification and counselling support to physicians and their clients, either by phone or in person. Peel HIV/AIDS Network (PHAN) supports people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS through education, advocacy and volunteerism.

Peel Works Needle Exchange Program (NEP)

Peel Public Health operates Peel Works Needle Exchange Program aimed at preventing the spread of bloodborne diseases, such as HIV/AIDS, among people who inject and/or smoke drugs (including steroids) by providing education, sterile needles/syringes, stems, screens, mouthpieces and other injection drug supplies, and safe disposal of used needles. Referrals are also made if someone is seeking information, support and treatment.

Asian Community AIDS Services (ACAS)

Canadian AIDS Treatment Information Exchange (CATIE)

CATIE is Canada’s source for up-to-date, unbiased information about HIV and hepatitis C. We connect people living with HIV or hepatitis C, at-risk communities, healthcare providers and community organizations with the knowledge, resources and expertise to reduce transmission and improve quality of life.

HALCO is a not-for-profit, community-based legal clinic serving low-income people with HIV and AIDS.

Ontario AIDS Network

This agency works to improve the quality and length of life of those infected and affected by HIV and to prevent the spread of HIV. Member groups across Ontario offer a variety of services and support, such as information about treatments and referrals to anonymous testing clinics.

Teresa Group

Teresa Group provides support and counselling to children infected with or affected by HIV. Teresa Group is an independent agency that partners with The Hospital for Sick Children. Services include individual and group counselling, emergency financial assistance for families affected by HIV, parent support groups, and care packages of food, diapers, and free formula delivered anywhere in Ontario for infants of HIV-positive mothers.

The Toronto People With AIDS Foundation is a safe place to get practical information and support services. Its goal is to help people with HIV/AIDS to continue living independently and with dignity.

AIDS InfoNet

The InfoNet was originally designed to make information on HIV/AIDS services and treatments easily accessible in both English and Spanish for residents of New Mexico. Its mission has expanded to that of providing HIV/AIDS treatment information in non-technical language in various languages. The primary audience for InfoNet materials includes people living with HIV and their caregivers, especially nurses and other first-line treatment providers. Through collaborative agreements with AIDS service organizations in various countries, the InfoNet is expanding the range of languages in which its materials are offered.

The Canadian Youth, Sexual Health and HIV/AIDS Study

  • The report presents the findings of a study on youth sexual health and HIV/AIDS.

The Global Coalition on Women and AIDS

  • The Global Coalition on Women and AIDS (GCWA) is a loose alliance of civil society groups, networks of women living with HIV, and United Nations agencies, supported by activists, political leaders, and celebrities. The GCWA is supported by a small secretariat located within the UNAIDS office in Geneva.

The Coalition focuses on eight key issues:

  • Supporting ongoing efforts towards universal education for girls
  • Securing women's property and inheritance rights
  • Reducing violence against women
  • Preventing HIV infection, particularly among adolescent girls, by improving access to reproductive healthcare
  • Promoting access to prevention options, including female condoms and microbicides
  • Ensuring women and girls have equitable access to treatment and care
  • Supporting women's work as caregivers within the household and the community
  • Promoting women's leadership in the AIDS response

Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis & Malaria

  • The Global Fund was created to dramatically increase resources to fight three of the world's most devastating diseases and to direct those resources to areas of greatest need.
