Smoke-Free Ontario Act, 2017 Resources

This resource will help individuals and organizations understand and comply with the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, 2017.

Signs

Under the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, 2017 employers and proprietors are required to post “no smoking” and “no vaping” signs on their properties to increase awareness.

No Smoking, No Vaping Signs

For sign requirements, the types of signs available and to access PDF versions of the signs, visit the Government of Ontario’s No-Smoking, No-Vaping Signs for Businesses.

Tobacco and Vapour Product Retailer Signs

Retailers are required to post certain signs in their stores to sell tobacco and/or vapour products (e.g., e-cigarettes).  For sign requirements, the types of signs available and to access PDF versions of the signs, visit rules for selling tobacco and vapour products.

Specialty Vape Store and Tobacconist Registration Applications

Specialty Vape Stores

The Smoke-Free Ontario Act, 2017 allows the sampling of vapour products, and the display of vapour products, in specialty vape stores if they meet certain conditions.  To learn the definition of a specialty vape store, and the conditions for the exemption, visit: rules for selling vapour products.

To register as a specialty vape store, review the specialty vape store guidelines (PDF), and submit the application (PDF) by email to Peel Public Health.

Tobacconists

The Smoke-Free Ontario Act, 2017 allows tobacconists to display and promote specialty tobacco products under certain conditions. To learn the definition of a tobacconist, and the conditions for the exemption visit: rules for being a tobacconist.
