Preparing For Baby

Mother & BabySupply Checklist for the First Few Weeks

Having your supplies ready before you bring your new baby home will help all of you settle in easier once your baby is born.

Be sure to stock up on these key supplies for baby and supplies for mom.

Supplies for baby

Clothing

  • Undershirts or diaper shirts (5-7)
  • Sleepers (6-8)
  • Booties or socks (3-4 pairs)
  • Hats (2)
  • Receiving blankets (4-6)
  • Wool or knitted baby blanket (1)
  • Mild laundry detergent

Diapers: Wash cloths or wet wipes

* Remember that your baby may need a diaper change after every feeding!

Parents & BabyBathing and safety

Furniture

  • A safety-approved infant car seat
  • A safety-approved crib or cradle
  • Storage for baby clothes and supplies

Bedding

  • Crib sheets (3)
  • Blankets
  • Mattress protector

Supplies for Mom

  • Nursing bra
  • Breast pads (cotton or disposable)
  • Cushion or pillow for support

Other

  • Sanitary napkins (no tampons)
  • Hemorrhoidal cream
  • Homemade icepacks (pour a small amount of water onto a sanitary napkin then put it in the freezer)
  • Diaper bag or a large purse/gym bag
  • Open-front nightgowns or breastfeeding-friendly tops
