Region of Peel’s 2018 Budget Wins Distinguished Presentation Award

Brampton, ON. (Oct. 1, 2018) The Region of Peel’s 2018 Budget has received the Government Financial Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. This award is the highest form of recognition by the GFOA and reflects a commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. This is the third consecutive Distinguished Budget Presentation Award received by the Region of Peel.

"This distinguished budget presentation award is a testament to the Region's commitment to public transparency and accountability to our residents," said Stephen VanOfwegen, Commissioner of Finance and Chief Financial Officer. "The 2018 budget focused on demonstrating better outcomes for the community and I would like to thank the GFOA for their acknowledgement of this dedication."

In 2018, the Region of Peel restructured their budget presentations, placing more of an emphasis on outcomes while ensuring information was easy for residents to understand. This innovative approach was recognized by GFOA for its focus on ensuring budget documents were oriented to reader's needs while demonstrating how the Region of Peel is working to improve the community.
