Region of Peel COVID-19 Community Response Table

Brampton, ON – Mar. 30, 2020 – To support Peel's most vulnerable residents during COVID-19, the Region of Peel has convened a Regional Community Response Table (Table) and is collaborating with local community partners, health and social service organizations and the not-for-profit sector on planning, operations and service delivery.

"Our goal is to help local agencies to support vulnerable and at-risk populations by responding to the emerging needs arising from the COVID-19 pandemic." said Janice Sheehy, Commissioner of Human Services at the Region of Peel. "The Community Response Table will help us develop an inclusive and responsive solution to facilitate information sharing, problem-solving and community collaboration during this time."

With more than 60 organization representatives, the Table consists of staff from the Region and from its partner communities – Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga. It also includes community stakeholders and various not-for-profit agencies across Peel. To help identify and address needs, Table participants are encouraged to provide knowledge of their organizations, sectors and communities. The Table is a forum for discussing shared challenges, opportunities and solutions and disseminating information about community impacts and resources.

The Region of Peel's Human Services and Health Services departments recently conducted a survey with more than 200 local agencies to evaluate the initial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the service-provider landscape. The Community Response Table convenes several times each week, for the foreseeable future to identify, prioritize and respond to urgent organizational and community needs.
