Mobile COVID-19 testing in Caledon part of larger strategy

Brampton, ON (June 12, 2020) – Peel's next mobile COVID-19 testing site will be held Tuesday, June 16 at Albion Bolton Community Centre in Caledon. Testing starts at 10 a.m. and continues to 6 p.m. No appointment is required.

"Residents without symptoms but who are either a close contact of someone confirmed or suspected to have COVID-19 or work in a high-risk setting, like retail, health care or food processing, should come for testing," said Dr. Lawrence Loh, Interim Medical Officer of Health for the Region of Peel. "Demand for testing is expected to be high, so we ask residents to be patient if there is a wait. The mobile site will process as many tests as possible on Tuesday."

Targeted testing, through mobile teams, and pop-up and community sites, will allow Peel to reach people at highest risk of infection and support existing work at local assessment centres and outbreak management.

Anyone experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 should attend one of the hospital-based assessment centres for testing, rather than attend the mobile location.

Depending on their risk of exposure, residents attending the mobile testing location may need to self-isolate at home for 14 days following their test or until their results come back negative. Results will be available online for anyone with a green Health Card.

"Mobile and pop-up testing is the first phase of an integrated strategy developed by local health sector partners to expand community COVID-19 testing in high-risk locations, including institutional outbreaks, workplaces and priority neighbourhoods across Peel," said Kimberley Floyd, Vice President of Home and Community Care for Ontario Health (Central) and the Central West Local Health Integration Network (LHIN).

The strategy is a partnership between Ontario Health (Central) the Region of Peel, Peel Public Health, Peel Paramedics, primary care, community partners and hospital partners like Headwaters Health Care Centre, Trillium Health Partners and William Osler Health System.

Albion Bolton Community Centre is located at 150 Queen St. S, Bolton. It is located south of King Rd.
