Region of Peel and PRPS raise nearly $260,000 for United Way

Over the past 10 years, Region of Peel employee United Way campaigns have donated more than $3.1 million to support long-term social change in the Peel community.

Brampton, ON. (April 29, 2022) – Together, employees of the Region of Peel and the Peel Regional Police Service raised almost $260,000 through personal donations and events in support of United Way Greater Toronto in 2021. These efforts will support United Way in delivering services that meet the urgent needs of Peel residents who have been starkly affected by the ongoing effects of the pandemic. A cheque for $257,799, exceeding the $200,000 campaign goal, was presented virtually to Daniele Zanotti, President and CEO of United Way Greater Toronto, at Peel Regional Council yesterday.

Presenting the cheque on behalf of Region of Peel employees was Jacqueline Dixon, Chair of the 2021 campaign, along with Nando Iannicca, Regional Chair, Janice Baker, Chief Administrative Officer, and Gary Kent, who is both the Commissioner of Corporate Services and the United Way Campaign Executive Sponsor for the Region.

Over the past 10 years, Region of Peel employee United Way campaigns have donated more than $3.1 million to support long-term social change in the Peel community.

The United Way supports more than 55 agencies that deliver over 90 programs to communities across Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga. Last year, according to Zanotti, over 155,000 Peel residents received a helping hand from United Way Greater Toronto.

I am very proud of the employees at the Region who, for more than 40 years, have raised funds for the United Way. Their compassion and generosity help keep programs running throughout the pandemic, meeting the needs of our community and ensuring that people can get help when they need it most.

Janice Baker, Region of Peel Chief Administrative Officer.

The contributions made by Regional employees shows their ongoing commitment to supporting and improving the communities where they work and live. Thank you to all employees who helped contribute to the goal of improving the quality of life for individuals and families and building stronger community supports within Peel.

Gary Kent, Commissioner of Corporate Services and United Way Campaign Executive Sponsor.

Peel Region was hit hard by the pandemic, particularly those already facing poverty and those from equity deserving groups. With your generosity, United Way responded swiftly by supporting a network of agencies through emergency grants and flexible funding. You helped women and children access safety supports so they could live free of violence. You helped provide food support to families living on a low income. You helped reduce social isolation for seniors at such a critical time. Your phenomenal fundraising efforts will ensure that your neighbours in Peel get the help they need, close to home. A sincere thank you for your continued commitment to strengthening our community.

Daniele Zanotti, President and CEO of United Way Greater Toronto.
