News release: May 30, 2022

Where will your bike take you this Bike Month?

Brampton, ON - (May 30, 2022) – Bike Month is an annual event celebrated from May 30 through June 30 across Peel Region that offers many opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities to try riding a bike for the first time, learn new skills, or simply have fun and connect with new people through cycling.

Riding a bike is a healthy way to explore the growing network of bike routes throughout Peel. Let your bike take you on an adventure in your neighbourhood and share that joy with the next generation of bike riders. Bike Month has something for you:

Bike to School Week is back in 2022!

Bike to School Week runs from May 30 - June 3, kicking off Bike Month. We invite students in Peel to celebrate the joy and possibilities of riding a bike! Biking to school is a great way for kids to get in their daily physical activity and build healthy habits, and it is also proven to improve their school performance and mental health.

Bike Month Event Calendar

Bike Month features municipal and community events across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) and Guelph. The BikeMonth.ca events calendar encourages community members to share cycling events throughout the month, from movie nights to group rides, workshops and more.

Kilometre Counter

Let’s ride around the world together in 2022 — twice! The Bike Month kilometre counter launched in 2021 and riders logged over 40,000 km and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 13,000 kg. Starting May 30, 2022, riders can set their personal goal and help reach our goal of 80,000 km or 26,000 kg worth of greenhouse gas emissions avoided over the course of the month! This year, participants residing in Toronto, Oakville, Peel Region, and York Region will be eligible to win prizes. Check out bikemonth.ca/PeelRegion to sign up and log the trips you've taken.

Safe Cycling Webinars

Join us for Webinars throughout Bike Month! We'll show you everything you need to know to ride safely and confidently, what all road users can do to help share the road, and how to ride in all weather conditions.

Bike Month across the GTHA and Guelph is coordinated by Cycle Toronto and supported by The City of Toronto, York Region, The Region of Peel, The City of Mississauga, The City of Brampton, The Town of Caledon, The City of Hamilton, The City of Burlington, The Town of Oakville, The City of Guelph, The Town of Halton Hills, and The Town of Milton.

Bike Month is a great way to help everyone get back into the rhythm of cycling. Whether it’s teaching a child to ride a bike, commuting to work for the first time by bike, or participating in one of Bike Month’s challenges and events, it’s an opportunity to explore our communities in a healthy, environmentally responsible way.
