About Peel Paramedics

The Paramedic Profession

Peel paramedics are an integral part of community health care and safety. Paramedics provide effective assessment, treatment and transport — both emergency and non-urgent — to anyone who is seriously ill or injured.

Paramedics have interchangeable roles of both driver and attendant. Their responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Primary/Advanced patient assessment
  • Treatment
  • Transport
  • Transfer of patient care at receiving facility (hospital)
  • Vehicle maintenance
  • Continuing medical education
  • Documentation

Levels of Care

In Ontario, there are three levels of paramedic care: primary, advanced and critical care. Paramedics also have the option to work on either land or air ambulances. Peel Regional Paramedic Services currently employs paramedics at the primary and advance care levels.
