Education and training
To become a paramedic in Ontario, you must do the following:
- Graduate from a certified Ontario college paramedic program. In general, you must have the following to be accepted to an Ontario college paramedic program:
- High school diploma
- Senior high school science and biology
- Current CPR C (basic rescuer level)
- Current immunizations
- Possess a valid class-F licence at the time of hiring.
- Be hired by a paramedic service. Each service has its own recruiting program.
- Pass the paramedic base hospital certification process.
- Pass the provincial certification exam (Advanced Emergency Medical Care Attendant).

Stage 1: Written exam
The written exam is scheduled for January 11, 2023 at 10 a.m. (virtual exam)
The comprehensive written exam will be conducted virtually through Examplify (platform). Candidates will be required to keep their cameras and microphone on throughout the exam. More information will be emailed to eligible candidates.
Those invited to write the exam will receive a separate email from ExamSoft, the makers of Examplify, to set up their account and to download the required software to their device. The personal device must meet Examplify’s minimum system requirements.

Examplify must be downloaded using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox internet browsers only.
Stage 2: Casper Test
Casper Test dates and times are listed (virtual situational judgement test)
- November 24, 2022 – 5 p.m. EST
- December 8, 2022 - 5 p.m. EST
- January 10, 2023 - 8 p.m. EST
- January 26, 2023 - 5 p.m. EST
Candidates must choose one of the above dates for their assessment. This exercise is approximately 100 to 120 minutes in duration.
Candidates can access the Casper Assessment website to create an account, find more information, and review the system requirements. Participants should register for CSP-10201 - Canadian Professional Health Sciences and select Peel Regional Paramedic Services for results distribution.
Deadline for submitting results to Peel Regional Paramedic Services is Monday, February 13, 2023.
Stage 3: Interviews
Interviews will be held January 30 to February 10, 2023 (virtual interviews)
This exercise is approximately 60 minutes in duration and follows the Multiple-Mini Interview (MMI) process.

Virtual interviews must be completed using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox internet browsers only.
Stage 4: Drive testing
Drive testing will take place between February 27 and March 3, 2023 (in person road test)
Candidates who are successful in the interviews and Casper Test will be invited to a road test. The driving assessment will be completed outdoors in an ambulance. Following the road test, candidates will submit all HRI documentation (Refer to the documentation requirements section.)
Ensure that all the following medical, physical, and legal documentation is complete before the due dates.
Candidates are solely responsible for the timely submission of all documentation.
Candidates should be prepared to submit electronic copies and/or produce physical original documents at any time.
Candidates may be eliminated from the recruitment process at any stage for failure to submit requested documentation.
How to upload your documents for the 2023 recruitment
Once you log into your account, you must upload the following documents to your profile as 1 file in the ‘Additional Documents’ area by the application deadline.
- Ontario Class F driver’s license or equivalent.
- MOHLTC AEMCA certificate or MOHLTC equivalency certificate or expectation to graduate letter from an approved college.
If you do not upload these documents as a single file by the application deadline you may be disqualified from continuing in the recruitment process.
Physical testing
Candidates must submit a Physical Agility Assessment completed by Ottawa Paramedic Physical Abilities Test (OPPAT) to be eligible to participate in practical testing or accept a conditional offer of employment. OPPAT tests must be completed no earlier than September 6, 2022. OPPAT test results dated before this are no longer valid.

Ensure that you have all documents outlined on the HRI checklist and bring the original versions with you to your driver testing appointment.

Criminal record check
The criminal record check must be dated 45 days before driving assessment. Vulnerable sector checks dated before January 13, 2023, will not be accepted.

Some municipalities require a signed criminal record request form from the Region of Peel. You will need to confirm with your local police department if they require this form. If so, email Peel Regional Paramedic Services to make an appointment to pick one up.
Processing time for vulnerable sector checks vary between municipalities. Check with your local police department and plan accordingly.
