Background

Policies that manage how and where Peel grows will form a key component of Peel 2041: Regional Official Plan Review. The Region and the area municipalities are entering the second stage of the Growth Plan implementation. This component of the Regional Official Plan review will extend the planning horizon for both population and employment forecasts to 2041.

The new Regional forecasts, as established by the Growth Plan 2017, will be allocated to the local municipalities and specific growth management policy areas. As part of the Growth Management Strategy, Regional staff is working closely with the Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga staff on this allocation to ensure that the forecasted growth is directed to areas where investment in infrastructure and services has been made or is planned to be made.

The Province has updated the Growth Plan as part of the Coordinated Plans Review.

The Growth Management component of Peel 2041: Regional Official Plan Review will accomplish the following objectives:

• Bring the Regional Official Plan into conformity with Growth Plan 2017;
• Update Regional forecasts to be used for provision of Regional services and infrastructure
• Update Regional growth management policy framework that will enable to accommodate forecasted growth to 2041; and
• Support implementation of the Growth Management Strategy
