Sanitary sewer and watermain replacement and improvement
Cawthra Road from Burnhamthorpe Road to Bloor Street. Projects 18-2252 and 15-1345
The Region of Peel has been working in your neighborhood to upgrade the sanitary sewer along Cawthra Road. This work is required to maintain and improve existing wastewater services.
In the next few months, you will see various construction activities at the Bloor Street and Cawthra Road compound area:
- We will be cleaning and testing the new sewer and installing a manhole.
- Once all underground work is complete, we will repair the road, sidewalk, curb, traffic islands and traffic signals (lights) where impacted by the tunneling compound. We expect this work to be completed by mid- March, 2022.
- The high walls around the compound have been removed.
- The temporary sidewalk along the compound wall will no longer be accessible for the duration of the removal.
- Future work along Bloor Street will require periodic road closures. Advance notice will be provided. Work is expected to be completed mid-2022, including repairs to any areas impacted by this construction work.
Contractor and working hours
The work will be completed by Technicore Underground Inc. under contract to the Region of Peel. This contractor’s normal working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. These hours are consistent with the local municipality’s bylaws. We understand this may cause some inconvenience, but shorter working days would require your neighbourhood to be under construction for a longer period of time.
Noise level
You may notice some noise and vibrations from the upcoming construction activities. We will try to minimize this noise.
Traffic, driveway and parking information
We will manage traffic to minimize disruption to vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians. We may need to temporarily reduce one lane of traffic during some portions of work.
Due to construction activities, we may need to block your driveway for a short time. We will contact you before we do this to arrange for the best time and for alternate access, if needed.
