New pressure reducing valve
Rathburn Road East. Project 15-1345 D1
What are we doing?
- Installing improved equipment and infrastructure on Rathburn Road East. Work will be focused 100m east of the Rathburn Road and Ponytrail Drive intersection. View area map (PDF).
Why?
- Following a scheduled water shutdown on Bloor Street, Peel discovered a short fall in our system that disrupted the water supply to multiple residents and businesses within the Rockwood neighborhood.
- To ensure that this does not happen in the future, Peel will be installing a new pressure reducing valve that will provide an additional supply of water, in the case of a planned or unplanned water interruption.
- To upgrade the water system capacity and reliability as part of the Region of Peel’s State of Good Repair program.
When?
- We expect to start work on or about October 13, 2020.
- The project should be completed before October 30th.
- We will start restoring the road immediately after the works are complete, as weather permits.

Working Hours
- Our contractor’s normal working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. These hours are consistent with the local municipality’s bylaws. We understand this may cause some inconvenience, but a shorter working day would mean the project would take longer to complete.
Traffic Control and Pedestrian Safety
- Traffic will be reduced traffic to a single lane in each direction during construction on Rathburn Road East between Tapestry Trail and Ponytrail Drive.
- All construction will take place within the roadway and all sidewalks will remain open.
- The contractor and Region staff will ensure the safe movement of pedestrians around the work zone.
Interrupting Your Water Supply
- It is our goal to let you know 48 hours (2 days) in advance if we need to shut off your water.
- If we have to shut off your water because of an emergency, we will do everything we can to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
Vibrations
- You may feel slight vibrations from the construction work.
Project Updates
- The Region of Peel will always let you know if there are any major changes to the plans.
- We will try to disturb you as little as possible.
- Please call the project manager or inspector if you have any concerns or special needs.
