Special Event Road Closure Permits

If you are planning an outdoor event on a Region RoadView a Detailed Map of Peel's Regional Roads (PDF)you may need a road closure permit for special outdoor events such as:

If you're planning a block party, BBQ or event that will take place on a Non-Regional Road contact the City you live in.

The Region of Peel will review the event details and decide what requirements are needed from the applicant in order to obtain the permit that suits your event.

Type of Closure Definition Forms Requirements Fees
Full Closure This is an event that requires the complete closure of a Regional Road and or a Municipal Road. Traffic movement must be diverted by a scheduled detour plan. Police must be at the event site for traffic control. Special Event Application

Insurance Certificate (PDF)
Email, fax or hand-deliver your Special Event Application, Permit and Insurance certificateat least 6 weeks beforethe event date. $562.10
(You can pay in person using Visa, MasterCard or mail a cheque made payable to the Region of Peel)
Partial Closure This is a special event that requires lane closures, but allows traffic to continue in both directions.
Police may be at the event site for traffic control.
Special Event Application

Insurance Certificate (PDF)
Email, fax or hand-deliver your Special Event Application, Permit and Insurance Certificateat least 4 weeks beforethe event date. $281.05

Rolling Closure This is a special event closure that does not require any permanent lane closures. Used mostly for small parade walks that use sidewalks only and/ or bike events that close roads for a very short period of time. All closures are contained to either (1) lane and monitored by police presence. Special Event Application

Insurance Requirements

All applicants excluding municipalities, plant owners and their designated contractors require an Insurance Certificate (PDF) - $5 million minimum, naming the Region of Peel and Area Municipality as additional insured.

Once we receive the above items, an Approval Letter with a permit number and Indemnification and Hold Harmless Agreement will be forwarded to you. You must complete and return the Indemnification and Hold Harmless Agreement 2 (two) weeks before the event and you must follow all the instructions.


Cancelling Your Event

If you have to cancel the event, you must notify the Region of Peel a minimum of 2 (two) weeks by calling us at 905-791-7800.
