According to data from the Canadian Community Health Survey (2009/10) in Peel 19% of fathers (of children aged 0-18 yrs.) and 10% of mothers smoke. This means that an estimated 18,800 children under the age of six may be exposed to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS). Even children whose parents do not smoke are at risk of exposure to ETS through other settings such as multi-unit dwellings.
