Peel Goods Movement Task Force
The Region of Peel Goods Movement team, together with the Goods Movement Task Force, have demonstrated leadership in the area of goods movement in Ontario, taking important steps to maintain it as a significant freight hub for Canada.
The Task Force, which represents a public-private partnership, identified several action items aimed at addressing congestion and fixing the movement of goods across Peel. Work is well underway, and the team continues to focus on improving the efficiency, competitiveness, and sustainability of the goods movement system.
Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) Peel
In January 2021, the United Nations University officially acknowledged the Region of Peel with a Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) designation, referred to as RCE Peel.
The establishment of RCE Peel will allow the Region and its partners to collaborate with the global network and promote sustainable development with a focus on improving goods movement and sustainable transportation.
RCE Peels vision is to form a collaborative entity that will help create a healthy and sustainable community for Peel residents and businesses.
RCE Peel will work with partners to inform and implement strategies, opportunities, programs, and educational endeavors that support the sustainable movement of people and goods, ultimately increasing Peels climate change resiliency and allowing for economic prosperity and a high quality of life.

Smart Freight Centre (SFC)
The Smart Freight Centre has been established as a 5-year collaborative network with the Region of Peel, McMaster University, University of Toronto, and York University.
SFC will work on regionally significant goods movement issues and projects in Peel Region and the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) to reduce the impacts of goods movement on communities and the environment.
