Ecstasy is a hallucinogen that also acts as a stimulant.

It's often distributed as a pill, a capsule or as loose powder. It's impossible to know the exact chemicals in ecstasy, which is why its effects are unpredictable and dangerous.

Effects of short-term usage

  • Relaxation
  • Increased energy
  • Feelings of closeness to others
  • Confusion
  • Hallucinations
  • Jaw clenching and teeth grinding
  • Increased heart rate and blood pressure
  • Increased body temperature
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Risk of death due to severe dehydration.

Effects over the long-term

  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Exhaustion
  • Paranoia
  • Depression
  • Flashbacks
  • Liver damage
  • Potential brain damage
  • Learning and memory difficulties.
