 Playground
Safety Tips
1.
Check Your Children |
Ensure that your
child does not have:
- Bicycle helmets
- Sandals
- Bare feet
- Drawstrings on
any clothing
- Loose clothing
- Scarves (neck
warmer instead)
Skipping ropes are allowed on or near the playground
only.
|
2.
Check the Playground |
- Make sure it
is suitable for your child's age - if your
child cannot reach the equipment, he/she
should not be using it.
- Choose a playground
with a surface that has soft rubber mats,
lots of sand, pea gravel or wood chips.
- Check the depth
of the surface with your shoe to ensure
it is 6 in. (15 cm) deep.
- Check for things
that can harm your child, i.e. sharp edges,
broken glass, garbage or bolts that stick
out.
- Check for spaces
that your child's head or neck could get
stuck in. The spaces should be smaller
than 3.5 in. (9 cm) and larger than 9 in.
(22.5 cm).
- Check that there
are appropriate barriers to prevent falls.
|
3.
Always Supervise Your Children |
- You should stay
close enough to your child, so you can
reach him/her at all times.
- Teach your child
the rules of the playground, i.e. one person
on a slide at one time, no bullying behaviour,
holding on to rails.
