Region of Peel Plans Special Events to Mark National Public Works Week
(Brampton) - The Region of Peel will be holding a series of informative and fun-filled activities from May 22 to May 26, 2001, to mark Public Works Week.
The purpose of Public Works Week is to inform residents about how Public Works contributes to improve the quality of life for all citizens in the Region of Peel. In addition, Public Works Week is held to acknowledge and congratulate Public Works employees for the work they do. This year's theme is "Working In The Public Interest."
"Public Works employees and services are a vital part of our community," said Mitch Zamojc, Commissioner of Public Works at the Region of Peel. "The services we provide affect residents' lives every day, from the roads they drive on, to the water they drink, to the waste they dispose of."
In order to promote an understanding and appreciation of the role the Public Works department plays in the community, the Region of Peel will host a number of events throughout Public Works Week, including school tours of the Public Works facilities.
The Grand Finale will be a barbecue and Open House for residents and staff on Saturday, May 26, at the Region's Headquarters, 10 Peel Centre Dr., Brampton. Public Works Department will display Public Works equipment and hold demonstrations for the public.
