Award-Winning Watercolourist Marc L. Gagnon At The Peel Heritage Complex

(Brampton) - An exhibition of paintings by the thought-provoking watercolourist, Marc L. Gagnon will be on display at the Whitney Gallery, Peel Heritage Complex from Nov. 23, 2001 to Jan. 7, 2002. You can meet the artist on Dec. 2, 2001 from 1 - 4 p.m.

Gagnon, a self-taught watercolourist and registered architect, has been painting since 1976. He has combined his love of architecture and transparent watercolours to create dramatic paintings with contrasting values and bold strokes.

"For a painting to be complete and satisfying it must transmit with energy the essence of the subject, through its composition, and it must also retain a degree of the unexplained," says Gagnon. "It should emit a kind of thought-provoking aura, if it is to engage the viewer's interest long after the first viewing."

Gagnon, who describes his style as loose and fast painting, composes and paints simultaneously. He carefully plans before composing and then uses his intuition to react spontaneously to the subject.

Born in Hawkesbury, Ontario, Gagnon, who now resides in Brampton, has participated in numerous regional juried shows and won the award for "Best Watercolour in Show" in 1998 from the Annual Juried Show of Fine Arts, Art Galley of Peel. In 1999, he won third prize in the Bobcaygeon Arts Council and in 2000 he won "Best Watercolour in Show" for the "Invitation 2000" Annual Juried Exhibition, Art Gallery of Bancroft.

The Art Gallery of Peel is part of the Peel Heritage Complex and is operated by the Region of Peel and located at 9 Wellington St. E. in Brampton.
