Region of Peel Supports Week of the Child October 15 - 19, 2001

(Brampton) - The Region of Peel's Children's Services is proud to support the Association of Early Childhood Educators - Ontario 'Week of the Child' October 15 - 19, 2001.

"Children's Services is thrilled to participate in Week of the Child," said Lorna Reid, Director of Children's Services at the Region of Peel. "Not only does it provide us with an opportunity to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families, it also provides us with an opportunity to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs."

Research has shown that children attending high quality programs are more likely to develop the language, pre-mathematics and social skills they need to succeed in school. Today, we know more than ever before about the importance of a child's early years in shaping their learning and development.

"Early childhood education is one of the best investments a community can make for our children's futures," said Reid. "Children's Services fully supports early childhood professionals working together to improve access to child care, and to build broader support for a range of high-quality, early education programs and services."

The Region of Peel has 11 directly operated child care centres throughout Brampton and Mississauga, providing full and part-time care for children 18 months to 5 years. All 11 child care centres are participating in Week of the Child with a variety of activities for children and their families, including the Krayons for Kids Campaign.
