Four Peel Paramedics Receive Award of Excellence

(Brampton) - Four paramedics from Peel Regional Ambulance Services were recognized today at the General Committee of Regional Council with the 'Regional Chair's Award for Paramedic Excellence' as part of Paramedic Week in Peel.

"When saving lives is the nature of your work, it's difficult to distinguish who does it best," said Regional Chair Emil Kolb. "The individuals being recognized today are not only committed to their profession, they are also honoured for the special ways they provide comfort to those in crisis."

Recipients of the first Chair's Award are Jeremy Asselbergs, Graham Blair, Shauna Pereira and Tammy Wheelans.

Asselbergs and Wheelans received praise and recognition for their tireless efforts in raising the profile of paramedicine in the community. Blair and Pereira were recognized for their generosity toward a young boy whose family lost everything in a house fire.

"After overhearing that the young boy had, two days prior to the fire, celebrated his birthday and had lost a very special present, these two exceptional paramedics went out and personally purchased another toy for the boy," says Joseph Moore, General Manager of Ambulance and Emergency Programs. "This truly made a difference in this young boy's life."

Paramedic Week in Peel, taking place from September 24 to 29, is a week-long event designed to foster awareness of critical emergency medical services provided by the Region of Peel.
